I know you will. [And Peter believes him, easily, without a doubt. Even if so much of their life now is in flux, Peter still will always believe in his spouse.
Peter offers Leo an encouraging smile when he realizes just why Leo is lingering. He touches Leo's hand on his shoulder reassuringly before he goes.
The most Peter gets up to in bed is shifting slowly to sit up. By the time Leo returns Peter is seated against the headboard. He's trying to not fall asleep right there.
[There's open relief on his face when Peter calls to him. Stepping up and setting the tray close by, not wanting to trap Peter under it just yet if he doesn't want it right now. Who knows, maybe the smell of toast will be wrong.]
Hey. Taking in the sights? [Their room, Leo decorated carefully. Photos they'd managed to save from before the war framed and posted up with a few from the post-war repairs and restorations. The few things of Peter's that Leo managed to keep from going in a museum exhibit are displayed on shelves next to their hastily taken wedding photo, a reminder of why Leo was doing what he did. Haphazard and sudden, no real ceremony to speak since they couldn't find supplies nor the space. Just the family and close friends in a bunker but... inexplicably happy for those few hours.]
[He moves to sit on the edge of the bed by Peter's legs, content to watch him for now. Taking in his motions, how he's talking. How he's handling existing again...]
Yeah. Yeah, I, uh. I remembered everything we talked about. All the stuff you wanted. [From the layout to the colors of the walls to the shape of the molding. They'd talked for hours and hours alone, at night or in that flower field before it got destroyed.
Did you add what you wanted too-? [He questions, his attention settling back onto his husband. Both of them wanted specific things. It had all been fantasy at that point. A hope to hold onto that they would get through the war in one piece.]
I remember you were pretty insistent on a tub big enough to bask in. [Bask and fool around in had been the intent.]
Oh, you know it. [He gives an immediate response with a wink. During the construction, he'd dealt with no end to the relentless teasing of his family; them trying to rebuild a relationship he didn't want, teasing him about possibly dating again because why else would he need a tub that big?]
I wasn't sure if you were going to be taking care of anything else. [Its an old instinct from before. When they had so little time to themselves and had to be nearly everywhere at once.
He's going to just butter that toast and shove it into his mouth, muffling his words.] Sorry, I guess that was a dumb question.
[He definitely has things he has to do. Appearances to make, awards to accept on Peter's behalf. The world is still rebuilding and thanking Peter for his sacrifice.
He's going to cancel everything today. Or send someone else to do it; the family would likely understand the immediate schedule change.]
[Peter brightens just a little again, smiling back at his spouse. He's still so used to sharing that the idea of just having Leo to himself feels like a reward in itself.
He takes another bite of his toast, just trying to get it down. For once in his life Peter isn't ravenously hungry. He isn't quite sure what to do with that lacking feeling.]
Cuddling sounds nice, its been a while since we really had time to just do that.
[Leo watches him eat that toast, making sure it doesn't cause any issues. Two years and the world has started to rebuild. Some foods were able to be reverse engineered and made again, others they still had samples of and could regrow. Bread was a newly reconstituted food, between the necessary yeast and sugar, it took a while. But Leo's just glad he isn't violently ill from it immediately.]
Cuddling I can do. Think that's enough to clear the whole day's schedule.
[Peter will realize just how lucky he is to be eating bread later on, when he's less overwhelmed and dazed. Actually putting food into his body is already helping him feel a little more steady.]
[He smiles watching him a little longer before grabbing his phone to shoot off a quick text, and then sets it away. He'll make it up to his assistant later; they can accept everything on his behalf for today.]
[Peter polishes off the rest of the toast. He picks up the glass of water to at least get some water into him before he sets it aside.
Peter ends up leaning back against the headboard for the moment with a slow gusty exhale. It becomes clearer how tired he was the longer he lays back.] C'mere, hero. I think we're owed some cuddles.
Oh, we are absolutely owed some cuddles. With interest. And a consolation gift.
[Leo watches him with relief - that he's fine eating, that it's seemingly staying down? Peter's pretty successful attempts at levity. Leo takes the moment to move the tray out of the way, to the foot of the bed for now, before climbing up to sit next to him, leaning against the headboard himself.]
[Peter wants to hold onto the levity for as long as he can, given the rest of the day has been... rough. Too many highs and lows rolled into one.
The ressurected man shifts to lay lightly against Leo, just trying to settle. He is going to accept feeling good while it lasts. He's still drained and wrung out, but the toast at least did its job.]
Lot to make up for. [He presses a light kiss against Leo's chin, then his jaw.]
[He settles with Peter right there against him, wraps one arm around him loosely to keep him close. But Leonardo smiles at the attention, tilting his head down to kiss Peter's temple, pressing his face against him.]
[Peter exhales softly, just content to hold onto his husband. He feels grounded like this. Given everything else that happened over the last few hours he feels wiped.]
Maybe we can actually have a full honeymoon. [He enjoyed what they could get last time, but now, well, the war was over and the two actually had the time.] Just you and me, somewhere else if there is even a place we could go to.
[He gives Peter a gentle squeeze of a hug. The idea of a proper, real honeymoon after everything... There's really only the city here that's been being rebuilt since everything happened. He'd have to warn Peter to prepare him for it.]
We should look into it after you've gotten more settled.
It'll be a dream we can achieve this time. [Peter is just going to get comfortable right here. As far as he's concerned, he belongs right here. He's tired, he's comfortable and he has something in his system, so he can avoid that jittery no food feeling.]
We talked about going to a lake once or twice. Maybe we can figure that out, if there are any clean ones left.
I know some work's been put in to the water filtration to start pumping back into the city and some of the homes that've been built already.
[He can feel Peter's exhaustion. He trails his thumb up and down Peter's arm while they talk. Sit. Be here, breathe each other in occasionally. He'd missed this. A hole in his life for over two years that is gradually refilling the longer Peter is here.]
That's good, I was wondering just... how the infrastructure stuff was going to work again. Everyone who we had in base at the time weren't really equipped for a lot of things we needed done for after the war. [He muses a little tiredly, just content to cuddle into his husband. Its hard not to be Commander Parker given he had put so much of his time and energy into being what everyone else needed. He and Leo had no choice. The two had stepped into being leaders.]
If there isn't, it can be rebuilt. Just going to take time.
I know. [He rests his forehead against Peter's temple for a moment.]
We kept a list of what needed to be priority installation and went from there. Everyone's been working their asses off the last two years since it all ended. You'll be surprised when you feel up for going into the city.
[The direct contact earns a soft pleased exhale from the brunette. His eyes just slide closed for the moment.]
I'm excited about everything, but my god, it's going to be a culture shock. You'll be stuck with me staring at everything dumbfounded like when we tried to explain TV to Casey.

I tried to keep everything I could find after.

This is everything they wanted. A space for themselves, an actual home where they can actively rest and celebrate their lives together.
Well, in Leo's case, where he could hold onto Peter for as long as possible. Peter has to bat the thought away, trying to not dwell on that yet.
There is already too much to think about right now.]
It's what I really wanted, just- a space for us.

I feel like after breakfast, I'm going to be sleeping a good long while. Just try to regain some energy after everything. Do you want to... stay-?
