[Peter laughs a little at that, just smiling at his husband. He relaxes a little more into the cot, just watching his husband, openly a little lovestruck.]
I would've argued with you about it a little anyway. [He can be honest about that much.] I don't wanna take away from anyone else.
[Peter arched a brow back at that, openly surprised.] It's finished already-?
[He shifts a little to draw the blankets aside, then the fabric of the loose shirt he was wearing. Because we'll handwave he was changed out of his blood soaked clothes earlier, its fine.]
Oh. [He's surprised again, but it softens into something gentle and pleased all at once.
The wound is already sealing itself around the stitching. Peter sleeping through most of the healing did a fair bit of the work. It's not perfectly healed over, but passable enough for Peter to move around.]
[He keeps looking at it, taking note of where it's healing better, how much pressure he can put on it before Peter instinctively reacts. He'll just carry Peter whenever he's ready.]
Yeah, we'll have to. Ugh, I really wanted to make a whole night of it.
[Peter laughs a little breathlessly. Half teasing as his husband finishes testing the wound.] Were you going to walk me in blindfolded, lay on the bed and break the room in that way?
[Peter slowly starts to sit up, stretching a little in the process.] Or did you want me to blindfold you and make your knees weak?
...Man you're thinking way farther ahead than I was. I was thinking about a nice dinner and candles, maybe some music and singing, and then showing you the new room.
[He sighs a little wistfully thinking about what Peter's said.] We can add that to the list though.
[He laughs again.] Well, you like spectacle and romance, so it felt like something you'd do for a surprise? Slow build, teasing, release.
Let's go see the room. See what trouble we can plan for it. [He would rather walk, but, he knows Leo isn't about to let him do a lot of that just yet.]
[Whatever answer he gives, Leo gives it to him without hesitation. Making sure Peter's secure, he'll make a note to let someone know to come get these sheets and ready the cot for the next person. The path through the halls is long and confusing, Leo intentionally taking a disorientating path so no one can follow them. Still not entirely safe, still not secure yet until that group is off to Chicago.
But he comes to the door, hard to see with how it still looks like the wall itself. The only indication there's anything there is a small panel to the right of it intended for multiple bio-scan inputs.]
Check this, I don't even have to put you down. [He laughs a little to himself, leaning down to let a retinal can get his eye before a hiss of air and the doors shift back about five inches into the wall and then slide open. Inside is a small sitting room with a table and chairs, desks for their work. The walls have been painted to look like inside a highrise restaurant with parts of the old Manhattan skyline. To the right of that is another door but with only a simple button push to open it.]
Bridal, we might as well make it romantic as possible. [He carried Leo over the threshold on their honeymoon, fair is fair.
He leans against Leo's chest as his husband walks, just relaxed in his hold.
He arches a brow at the bio-scan. It was a lot fancier than just a standard key code. It was about the level of tech protecting Donnie's lab and room.] This is- really fancy.
[As they step in, Peter's gaze sweeps across the room. A small surprised sound escaping him. It feels a little surreal to even see the painted version of a skyline that felt gone now. Much less in such a specific setting, something that felt real, but so distant.]
The wall... Wow. Did Mikey do this-? [Mikey's murals had only gotten better with time. They never had supplies to justify it.] An actual... sitting area too feels kind of crazy to have.
[Their previous 'office' area had mostly crammed in a corner. He eyes the button curiously.] So far part one is- really good, I love it.
[Leo lets the doors close behind them so they can have this moment. This is for them (and Big Brother Donnie) to have themselves. He doesn't set Peter down, not yet.
All the extra work he's done - scouting missions, supply runs. Knowing what he wanted to do for this room and knowing he needed to make whatever he does available for the rest of the colony as much as he could. Leo didn't get all of the supplies for this room in one go. It's been gradual building up of small amounts for several years now, making sure everyone had as much access to what he grabbed as he did.
The paints and ingredients to remix them and make new colors. Helping run new electricity fiber lines through the upper floor and rock above the base itself, the furniture from - laughably - a few undamaged furniture store warehouses on the outskirts of everything. But Leo smiles watching Peter's face take it in.]
Figured you'd like the view. Mikey did a lot of it in his down time as a favor.
[He glances back up at his husband, shifting enough to press a kiss against the underside of his chin.] We owe him more than a few favors, it's... incredible.
[Peter is more than a little taken aback at this point as he looks over the first part of the surprise. He'd love to just walk around, but, he doesn't try to get out of Leo's hold yet.]
[He steps over to the other door and pushes the button. This door just slides open without a sound perfectly calibrated and oiled to be silent. Inside is a smaller room with a bed their size but the frame built into the floor and wall; no risk of the noise or of it breaking. Any shelves or drawers are also built into the walls to save on space because all their things are still in boxes in the middle of the floor. But the walls have an extended mural of the New York skyline now as if seen from a skyscraper or the Empire State building. The ceiling is a large mural of blue sky and interspersed clouds.]
[Peter has a joke initially, a tease for his husband, that drops out of his head completely as Leo carries him into their main bedroom. He opens and closes his mouth, his teeth audibly clicking together.
The view is enough to make Peter's voice shake slightly. It feels silly, to be so emotional about a mural but... it's everything they lost. Almost a distant memory at this point since the city lay in ruins around them overhead. A headstone for what once stood, the population hidden below out of sight to even try to survive.
It was a large piece of who they were as teenagers. What started their relationship in so many ways. The two running through the city's skyline, laughing as the moon hung heavy overhead, the wind whipping past them as they fell together.]
[He's nervous now. Something he'd put so much thought and care into, wrangling so many people into helping with and swearing them to secrecy with the promise of him taking on a lot of extra duties over the last few years. It'd been easy enough to say it was because he was leading that he should shoulder as much grunt work as everyone else. But he also didn't want it to look like opportunism or something worse.
Balancing Peter again, he reaches over to flick off the lights. The ceiling above and the walls darken with the lights off but now have small, pinprick lights mimicking stars. Constellations in an open sky to give just enough light so they can still see the room but sleep peacefully. Or enjoy the night view.
Leo, for his part, looks nervous seeing it all together like this and presenting it to Peter. He'd meant it to be an important anniversary gift, something to make a big sweeping romantic gesture to make up for all the time he's spent working.]
[Peter presses a hand against his mouth, just staring at the ceiling as the lights come on. He bites the inside of his cheek. Stunned, amazed, and cycling through so many feelings all at once.
How long had any of this taken? How many people knew about this?
He laughs a little, the sound wet with the threat of tears.]
This is... so much. So- [He feels like he's tripping over his own thoughts. Tears sting at his eyes, spilling over a little as Peter swallows thickly.] I love this so much.
[Leo waits. He's waiting patiently, he's already waited this long just to even let Peter know it was a thought let alone something that was existing. But he smiles sheepishly at that reaction.]
I, um. I know you don't... Being down here is hard for you. So. I wanted to... try and make it a little easier to be down here underground so much.
Leo... [The rush of emotions just leave Peter fumbling to accurately say what is on his mind. He shifts the best he can in the hold to press a kiss against his husband's chin, his jaw, peppering his face with kisses.

And my argument would have been no one else lately has been shot in our own base.
no subject
[Unsurprisingly, Peter doesn't consider himself being shot an actual emergency.
He yawns.] Either way, it's a moot point. I'm going to sleep pretty well.
no subject
[Soon as the yawn is over, Leo is leaning in to kiss the tip of his nose.]
Bet you'll sleep really well for a while.

[He's still curious about what surprises Leo has in store, but he can be patient.]

Lemme check your stitches. If they're good I think it's ready and I can carry you there.

It was- It was gonna be an anniversary present so it was already being worked on.
[Sighs. His amazing plans of emotional terrorism against his husband. The audacity of that guy ruining it.]

Bridal or piggyback? Your choice.

Part one, for your judgement.
