[He closes his eyes tightly. Grief and joy side by side feels strange, and jarring. Peter can't quite pinpoint where one ends and the other begins.] I'm sorry, I'm sorry- I thought, I thought I was doing the right thing.
[Like a child looking for a lost something, or a man looking for his missing hope. Leo knew there was something at the end of that pulse if he could have just gotten to it.
His memories start to come in gentle waves, soft and slow was it washes up then back out with the tide. Just barely anything until it washes up again and fills in the picture a little more. It'll take time. It'll take a lot of time and patience for Leo to remember everything, but he remembers Peter's face now. His laugh when he's told a really bad joke that no one else should have laughed at.]
I'm- I'm not leaving you alone. Okay? You're, you're stuck with me.
Please, don't leave me alone. [He practically begs the other teenager that much. The thought of going back to his apartment alone feels like a blow. Peter can't handle that right now.]
I won't. You've got me, and the guys- You've got all of us.
[He finally sets Peter down properly, taking a second to breathe him in and tuck his head against Leo's.
Only then does it really register what exactly he asked. His whole face burns with embarrassment and maybe Peter will just accept he was emotional in the moment - but maybe. He kind of did mean that question too.]
[Peter just holds onto Leo, resting a hand against the edge of his shell next to his neck. He wants to kiss the turtle, very badly, but is holding himself back.]
I- I think we'd have to explain to your family who I am first, Leo. I dunno- if they'd be okay with me just showing up.
[Said too fast before Peter even finished what he was saying. But Leo's sure of it. They all felt that hollow missing in their chests, they'll understand this. He keeps clinging to Peter, like if he lets go he'll disappear again. He couldn't bear that.]
[His heart does little flips and leaps at that affection, clinging tighter before loosening his grip.]
I... They probably know something's up right now, but. Y-yeah. Sure.
[He wants to bring Peter home now, but. It probably is smarter to regroup first. Figure out what to say, let the emotions overwhelming him simmer a bit.]
[Barely remembering the guy for five seconds and already wanting to smother him in affection. Peter missed this, right?
But he looks at Peter's hand, then at his own. No disguise brooch, and no actual disguise more than a hoodie right now. That... Probably isn't the best to walk around in.]
Yeah, that'd be a good idea. I'd switch to my suit, but- I don't have it on me right now. [He made a point to have one afternoon to not be ready to fight crime. Just one.]
[Just!! Enamored by this, by feeling that lost bit of ninpo fitting itself against Leo's and the Hamatos' like it never left. He squeezes Peter's hand as they go.]
I- I dunno if I'll remember everything but. 'm glad I found you.
My spider-man suit, I mean- I was trying to just be Peter today. [Leo is cute, so cute. All Peter wants to do is kiss his boyfriend. For now, he holds onto Leo's hand, gently tugging him along the alley in the direction of his apartment.]
[Leo really really wants to kiss him right now. But they just met? But they've known each other for much longer apparently. It's hard to really tell, everything's all messed up.]
Oh. Right, duh of course.
I- I was going to keep looking no matter what. I would've found you eventually. [Squeezes his hand while they walk.]
Doctor... Strange. [Chuckles a little under his breath.] Goofy name.
[But he keeps himself between Peter and any building they walk past, hood up and head down, but still holding tight to his hand. But that expression is everything to him, slowly filling in another small gap of his memory.]
I guess our magic is stronger than his. [He squeezes Leo's hand again as they walk, just happy to have him here. It's taking an effort to not just kiss him again.
The walk takes them into a less than great neighborhood. Peter's posture shifts into something a little more defensive, smaller as he pulls Leo along towards a run-down looking apartment complex.
He leads his boyfriend inside, up the cramped dirty stairwell to an apartment. He only lets go of Leo to flip open his bag, fishing out his keys to unlock the door to his home.
He pauses to test the door warily, sighing when he realizes it just swings open. Upon closer inspection, the lock is broken clean off.] Great, again. Okay.
[He steps forward into the apartment, wary of anyone else being here, but it is empty. Things have just been turned over in the break-in.]
[It's easy to say because it is. Their ninpo is stronger than any dumb wizard magic; it's their connection, their very feelings of love for each other that nothing can break.
But the apartment building is... Not the best. Leo knows their sewer and now subway isn't like the greatest? But at least it isn't... this. It's not until the obvious broken lock and empty apartment from a breakin that Leo's heart sinks.]
...Yeah, you're coming back to stay with us when we're finished here. Okay? Please?
I- [Peter turns back to Leo, suddenly overly aware of how he lives. Embarrassment overrides the resigned feeling from earlier.] Okay, as- as long as your family is okay with it.
[Once Leo is inside, Peter closes the door. He nudges a door stop over to hold it firmly closed behind them. It isn't a lock, but it will keep the door closed.]
We still have to figure out what to... even say, you know?
They will be. [Oh that is not a lock and he is so genuinely worried about Peter. How long has he been living like this? How long has he been alone instead of home with them? There's a flash of recognition - this isn't how Peter used to live, this isn't his home - before the finer details wash away with the tide of memory takes it away again.
Leo pulls his hood back and starts just walking around the open area, but not wanting to get too far from Peter.]
I figure... "This is Peter, he's the missing piece of Ninpo we were looking for for a year, he did some msytic stuff and erased our memories to save the world but I found him and he's living here now," should work just fine.
[Peter ends up just sitting down on his unmade bed, opening his bag to fish out his likely flattened sandwich at this point.] Both of our lives are definitely weird enough that'd work pretty good.
I just worry about it being jarring I guess? Especially since we're kind of going from 0 to 60 in a lot of ways to them.
[He looks down at his meal, breaking the sandwich apart easily to offer one side to Leo.]
No swiss. [Its an easy response on his part, a sign he's familiar with Leo's preferences.]
[He watches Peter offering that to him with a bit of awe. Peter not only sharing food (huge for the Hamatos) but knows about his no swiss thing... Peter really was close to them. He takes it carefully and just holds it for the moment.]
I- I swear as soon as we explain it, they'll understand. They have to.
[That jade necklace around his neck feels warm as he finally has an answer for why he just knew it belonged to him. It had to have come from Peter.]
You will go home with me. [Leo says it so sure, so determined. But then he looks at what he's being offered, then at Peter and shakes his head, pushing the soda back to him.]
We either share it, or it's yours. I'm not taking that. [PETER... LOOK AT WHERE YOU ARE.] Just-
[Now that they are stopped, the rush of finding Peter and the hole that was missing in his heart and soul winding down some... Okay, logistics.] You said you're going to classes and stuff right? And job for ...this place?
[Peter releases a short huff of amusement at Leo's determination. It makes him feel... better. Way better than he has in a long time.
He peels back some of the protective wrapper on the sandwich to take a bite.] We can share it.
Yeah, GED classes. So I can try for college later. Its all online since I can't really get there physically right now. I work as a cashier for a bodega a few streets down.
