[Casey grins and lifts a (three! three-fingered!) hand to wave, doing his very best "everything is normal I'm not internally giddy at all" expression.]
Hey. Thought I'd stop by to hang out, if that's okay.
Ohmigosh it happened. Absolutely, one hundo percent yes we are hanging out, you are telling me how this happened, how long have you been a slider, I need to know everything.
[What is that noise. WHAT IS THAT NOISE can he do that too now?? this requires experimentation. But this is literally the best response he could have gotten.]
A slider? I don't know what you mean.
[He knows full well what a slider is but heck if he's not going to feign innocence now. Clueless apocalypse kid has to get away with shenanigans sometimes.]
[That's just the noise of pure unbridled JOY, no slider genes required. But he gets Casey in the door and closes it behind them.
And then GRABS HIM BY THE SHOULDERS.]
You know exactly what I mean, you're a TURTLE!! You're a me! [He's starting to inspect Casey all over, lifting arms and checking sleeves, picking at the braid.] How'd this happen? What'd you do? How did you get to have hair?
[Okay this is actually really difficult to keep up with the facade. Casey holds his expression as neutral as possible while Leo pokes and prods and questions, but it's a challenge. His mouth is twitching as he fights it.]
Why wouldn't I have hair? I've always had hair! It's not like it was gonna go anywhere.
[He knows, though. Oh, he knows. Even deep into the future sensei held some deep envy of Michelangelo's lush locks.]
[He finishes the cursory examination - probably the closest thing to Donnie he'd ever have really in terms of scientific research - before just standing in front of Casey.]
For real though, how long has this? Whole situation been going on?
[Hold it... hold it in... hold it- okay no he can't, he's going to explode.]
Since- since the beach festival! [He leans in, hands clenching into excited fists in front of himself, bouncing on those very non-human feet. (And wobbles. Not used to it yet. There's a toe shape where there shouldn't be.)] I found a cloaking brooch, and I had to try it! I didn't know it worked on humans!
[He lets his hands spread - three! fingers! only three! - and points one on each hand to his face.]
[......wait what does he mean, what. Of course he's a slider. Because... the mask! Ha ha! He's an idiot. It's totally not a subconscious species thing. It's the mask. Which Leo is aware of. Okay, okay, crisis averted. DENIAL IS THE FIRST STEP]
Nothing! Yeah, I guess it just... borrowed from my usual appearance? Same markings as the mask...
[Well okay they're not exactly the same. A little sharper, slightly different curve. That probably doesn't mean anything either. Definitely. It's mask-adjacent.]
Really? [Lifts a brain carpet and dusts whatever THAT was right under a compliment.] Thanks! It feels so weird, though. For a long time back home I thought it was just some kind of illusion, but nope. Normal turtle digits.
[He makes grabby hand motions. Having three instead of five feels so different. Where did his other fingers go??]
[He sets a hand to his chin, then pulls it back briefly because whoa, even that feels different. His chin is different, the fingers are different! This is a totally new experience apart from the familiar shift. Like this he can forget he changed at all.]
Should I? He's less loud about in the future but I always went to Master Michelangelo for mystic stuff, since "science is superior".
[He does the air quotes but his tone is the opposite of sarcastic with it. He loves all things mystic, but science and tech are how he fights since he can't actually use it, so. Never going to diss science.]
[Leo chuckles a little at that, resuming circling him just a little.]
I wouldn't, unless you want him to experiment on you. Or, if you do, show up as yourself first, then show him the brooch. If he thinks you transformed into a turtle legit, he'll want sooooo many blood samples.
[Also like. Probably be weird about CJ being a slider like Leo but shhhh]
He's already got two. Maybe I should try to go for some kind of record. [Grins. He's still got the mini Raph snappers.] Actually, I wonder if it would be different. Do I have turtle blood now? When I turn the brooch off, would a sample go back to human blood?
[Yeah sorry Leo Donnie helped raise this one too.]
Huh... I didn't think of any before now. [He did it for the bit, and now he has no follow-through.] Is there anything I should know? From a slider expert.
[That does make sense, actually. Not like he has full ears anymore. He hadn't noticed that specifically since everything feels new, but now that Leo's mentioned it... wow, he really never thought to ask sensei about that.]
I can only go for about 90 seconds as a human. How long can you hold yours?
[To be fair, Sensei probably wouldn't have said much. Too much of a vulnerability, and it's not something even Leo likes talking much about. One of his handicaps.]
Hm... About forty five minutes? Longer if the water's cold. Never really timed it to see the max, but we should do that sometime.
You should ask Donnie sometime, he's insane good at holding his breath even longer.
[Just so nonchalant about it, even! But he's still examining Casey seeing all the little bits of slider on him.]
Ssssooooooo, you planning to do this often? 'Cause if you are, I can help with like. Grip stuff and - omigosh have you tried going into your shell yet?
[Casey lets him poke around without protest, though there isn't much to see initially. He's in an oversized hoodie because his wardrobe is still limited and it was the only thing that fit the shell properly. However, now that he's over here and the shell is mentioned, he tugs the hoodie off to let Leo see it. The pattern is pretty similar to Leo's, just a touch off, similar to the face markings, and his stripes are smaller and less pronounced. Still screams 'slider', though.]
I hadn't thought about it... [To both questions. Is it weird to fake it? Nobody judges the yokai for hiding themselves, but humans aren't exactly forced to hide either. Is this species appropriation? (Does it count when Leo's so hype about it?)] I wouldn't even know how to try. My shell looked smaller than yours, do you think I'd fit?
[Though the rest of him is also smaller. He might get away with it.]

STILL! VERY COOL!]
Never got how those things worked, but I'm glad it understood your turtle identity correctly as a slider.
no subject
What?
[He's a slider oh that's right he's a slider
he's a slider and Leo knOWS HE'S A SLIDER OH NO]
no subject
Leo just looks PROUD if still a little confused but he's getting over that part. ]
Wha'dyou mean 'what'?

Dunno, he'd be the one to talk to about it. I'm the one you wanna talk to if you have turtle questions.

Also we can hold our breath for a while, but we're not fully aquatic like softshells. [Like Donnie.]

Forty-five minutes!? I gotta try that when I go back to the house.
[Sort of explains why they never seemed to need oxygen masks while on short scavenging trips...]
