[ his portalling is so goddamn impressive it's hard not to get starry eyed all over again. she lets herself watch, at least, when she's not taking a moment to strain her senses for any sign of trouble. ]
No hot chocolate, unfortunately. [ HER FAVORITE. What she wouldn't give for a cup. ] But I went the other day with a teammate and stocked up on a whole bunch of different teas and coffees. I found a black tea blend with strawberry and bergamot? Or that's what it tasted like. Super yummy.
My stash is yours for the raiding. And if you want company for the kitchen ruin, let me know? I don't love the paranoia gas situation, but it's not the worst.
[ she's already hypervigilant. what's a little more! ]
[ (a lot. a lot more. eugh.) ]
[ pauses when she hears a branch snap ... somewhere. might've been leo. might have been something else. ]
[ She answers his headtilt with an agreeable nod, giving her staff a single twirl to pep herself up. Okay. One each. That should be doable, she thinks, ]
[ Getting a visual on the approaching monsters isn't easy. Their black coats blend in with the shadows, almost (ALMOST) well enough to make up for how badly they fumbled their stealth rolls. Snap. Snap. A period of disconcerting silence. The crunch of frozen leaves, of snow beneath powerful paws.
Big. Big paws. Big claws.
Because the beasts that jump out at them look something like monsters straight out of DnD, slavering and hungry, intent on an easy meal. Yikes? YIKES. When in doubt: SMACK IT REAL GOOD. ]
[ There's a shimmer of pale gold shot through with fire opal as Korone summons a shield — a semi-transparent flat disc that wheels around her seemingly by itself, blocking strikes from her opponent's lashing tail and toothy tentacles ]
Why do tentacles have teeth, geez! [ Dodge, block, dodge, smack! Her staff connects with enough force to fling the beast back through a tree. It's not going to stay down for long, but that's fine; it gives her the second she needs to swap her staff for one of her feather swords. ]
[ BACK TO IT ]
Your top three favorite hot drinks: go. [ The beast's mad, and it only gets madder, shrieking in pain and anger when she parries a tentacle and pivots, severing it cleanly with a swing of her blade. ]
Whoa, wait! Candy cane matcha, for real?! - Oops! [ A tailwhip takes her legs out from under her, but it's fine, she catches herself in a handstand and springs back out of range ]
It's good! Don't have to add anything to it really.
[He gives a low whistle seeing that before a thumbs up. But he's also decided he's tired of these tails. Leo lets himself start to fall before getting a portal under him, coming out of one about twenty feet up and landing in another just to get himself around the backside of his beast to slide the tail with all the force he can from the manufactured fall. The thing cries out in pain as its tails fall off from the base.]
like holy heck he would be a genuinely scary opponent to face in any kind of serious match. amazing. ]
So did you - [ her beast lunges and so does she — except it slams face-first into an invisible wall, thank you shield powers, while she flips up and over, severing the second tentacle with a flick of her sword. the beast crashes to the ground, dazed ]
[His own's tails are gone, one leg messed up but it's still trying to swipe at him. He sighs. Okay, he's really tired and would like to just have a CONVERSATION with his FRIEND.
Leo tosses his sword towards the beast, flicking himself in a flash of blue to the back of its neck and sinks the blade in at the base of its skull. It lets out a cry that bows into a whine before its weight falls face first into the ground.]
You should definitely try it if there's any here though.
[ Hers hasn't managed to get its shit together just yet. She eyes it, wary, featherblade at the ready, but she'd really prefer to not kill it if possible. ]
I'll put it at the top of my list of things to look out for. You're not hurt or anything, right? [ Flicks a glance his way, assessing. ]
[Leo's been trying... Trying to get over his inclination to not kill since this place is... The way it is. But if they can use some of this meat in the future, there's no point in wasting it. Once he's sure his is down, he just leans on his sword hilt.]
It got me good in the shin with that tail strike, but I think — oh no, really? [ There's a rumbling (if still distinctly dizzy-sounding) growl from the beast. It gets its paws up under itself, pushing up. ]
[ Adjusts her grip on the blade, giving it a twirl. ]
… But I don't think it's gonna cause a problem. Unlike this guy.
[ She lets it lunge for her. Barely bothers dodging. It's a well-timed sidestep and a pivot, her blade flashing out, and when the beast falls again it's with a cut throat. Eugh. She hops back a few feet with a shudder, that's a lot of blood. ]

[ Hm, she forgot gloves — wait, no she didn't. Pulls a pair out of a pocket she'd sewn into the inner lining of her winter cloak. That's better. ]
Which reminds me, I'm inviting you over to Sparrow for a hot drink after this.
[ offers him a nice branch ]

Every now and then he'll look up at a tree, portal himself up high and hide a sword in a tree before coming back down.]
Oh yeah? What drinks d'you guys have?

I've got a bunch of tupperware you could use? Bottles would probably easier though, for syrups.

[Twirls one katana around his hand before going up in a tree again.
Then back down next to her.]
Bottles are definitely easier.

[ Casually retrieves her titanium bo, soundlessly extending it with the press of a well-concealed button. ]
Sibling prerogative. On the other hand: syrups.
[ Another snap. Closer. Another to the west, further away. ]

[He takes a breath at the second sound. Flicks his eyes to Korone and tilts his head back toward the first one.
You take that one, unspoken as he walks past her in the general direction of the second snap, sword over his shoulder.]

[Once the beasts jump out at them, Leo does a quick flip out of the way, landing on one's back and with sword still in hand.]
It's rude to interrupt. [Giving it a quick slice across the back of its neck as it howls at him.]
Anyway, black tea and vanilla syrup is to diiiieee for. [And leaping off when it tries to swipe at him with its tail.]

And then coffee, of course.
