[Leo watches Peter, the corner of his lips turning up just a hair. He looks at Peter's face before looking back down to his hand. Sees the bruising still on his skin.]
[The question seems to surprise Peter. For his part, he had compartmentalized the lingering bruising. He had a million other things he was thinking about he hadn't thought about the way he looked. The bruising hurting was something that was just background noise for Peter. Enough so he skimmed over it.]
Oh- no. I... not today. [He raises a hand to touch at his own face slightly.] It hasn't really been healing yet, I'm not sure why.
[Peter hadn't quite made the connection to how much of his own healing factor he had been giving Leo on and off being a factor in why.]
[Leo watches him carefully. Watches the bruises in Peter's skin as he talks, as he moves.]
There's gotta be a reason. [His voice is still quiet, but firm now. Something else to focus on, something that isn't himself.] What've you been doing differently since the day the riot started?
[Peter exhales a little, tracing his fingers across the bruising absently.] Ironically, resting. Mikey has been playing buffer from people interacting with me.
[It takes Peter a moment to really think about it, as he sits close to Leo. He runs his fingers absently across Leo's hand.
The realization hits him. Just pouring his healing factor into Leo had become a background noise, something he did without much thought.]
Oh- [He clicks his teeth together, his brows pinching together. He's honest about the situation, even if he knows Leo won't be thrilled.] After, I found you, I opened our ninpo and started pouring energy into the connection. Primarily my healing factor to try and help.
[The honesty is good. Given what's going on and how cracked he is at the moment, he needs the honesty. But Leo is watching him closer now, connecting a few dots.]
Maybe a day or so ago. [Honesty is always something the two strive for. Even if side stepping something or changing the topic is a habit made worse by the end of the world.]
I hadn't really even looked at myself enough to realize the bruising was still here. [He was busy trying to occupy his mind and hands with anything else.]
A few days. [Peter isn't surprised Leo doesn't know. He's not thrilled he gets to be the one to burst the bubble, but Leo was going to find out eventually.] You'll probably need to stay here a bit longer too. Just to be sure you recover.
I wanted to do something, Leo. [Is his immediate response with a sharp exhale.] I was scared, it felt like the only thing I could do that wasn't just sitting here waiting for you to wake up.
Then- after they kicked me out, sitting outside of the infirmary hoping I could see you again.
[Leo still can't find it in himself to talk any louder than the quiet near-whisper he's had this whole time. But his tone is firm. He'd tired, he still hurts, and now this on top of it.]
That something should've been you taking care of yourself.
I have been taking care of myself. [Peter knew at least distantly that Leo wasn't going to be happy about Peter over-extending himself, so he was at least slightly prepared for an argument.
He still isn't happy about it. He didn't want to add to how shitty his husband feels.] I'll heal, I always do.
I just needed- [To feel like he was able to do something or be useful in this situation he felt helpless in.] I needed to know you were okay as you can be right now.
It's going to heal, I'm not going to be worried about it, okay?
[He leans back a little where he's seated next to Leo. He's trying to keep a cap on his frustration. His tone is quiet, a little sharper than he'd like.]
[Peter clicks his teeth together, shoulders squaring off a little in a quiet kind of frustration.
Several different answers just get stuck in the back of his throat. Nothing particularly good, or conducive to the situation. Peter doesn't want an argument, he doesn't want any of this.]
I've been taking care of myself, Leo. I can handle a few bruises lasting longer, if it meant I was actually doing something besides sitting here and then sitting out there.
Leo can't bring himself to. The volume slider on his voice is stuck at "low", a couple false starts of the sound of the first syllable catching in the back of his throat, refusing to fully form the word it begins. So instead, Leo settles for staring hard at Peter before back up at the ceiling.]
There were a lot of other things you could've been doing. But instead you let yourself stay hurt to help me.

[Something no one's really told him. Probably so he doesn't get upset or freak out about not doing his responsibilities, but Leo needs to know.]

Take your healing factor back.

[He's just not healing, which is something he'll have to figure out.]

I just don't know why I'm not healing as fast. [Its a really not at all, but Peter assumes it will be fine.]
It'll probably fix itself soon enough.

[He rests his head back, looking up at the ceiling for a second.]
Why'd you do it?

[His hand is gripped into a fist against the bedsheet, his whole arm starting to tremble.]
You've sat out here almost every day waiting. Have you even eaten?

Yes, Leo, I've been eating.
