[Peter's smile softens a little as he takes in the actual merriment going on. Relaxed conversation carries through the mess hall, children are running around playing amongst themselves, and people are shuffling through the box of old and new decorations to put up. Even those not participating in decorating are clearly happy.
It's the most alive the base has felt in a long time.]
Hopefully, we can keep these decorations for next year too. Make them last.
[Peter nods at that, already mentally going through what storage boxes they could probably scrounge up to keep the decorations.] Some of those air tight plastic containers would probably do the trick.
The tinsel is already shedding, so, it'll probably go before the holiday is up. [He motions a little teasingly at the loose bits of tinsel already on the floor. He drifts forward, towards the decorations, assuming Leo will follow him.]
[It doesn't take long for Peter to come to a stop at the decorations yet to be put up. He shifts carefully through what's left, finding a hanging banner of happy rosy cheeked snowmen. It's so corny looking it immediately makes Peter chuckle.]
To be fair, finding the tinsel bits for the next few months will be very heartening. [He jokes a little as he glances back up at his husband.]
[He blinks a little but nods in turn. Briefly, a little disappointed Leo had something to attend to, but keeping it off his face. He just smiles back at his husband.] Sure, I'll be here. Probably hanging thing up a little crookedly.
Don't keep me waiting too long. [A gentle tease on his part.]
Won't, promise. [He quickly kisses Peter's cheek before bounding off quickly.
If he doesn't do this now, he likely won't get the chance any other time of the year. But he talks to a few people, rearranges a few schedules, some handshakes.
But when he comes back fifteen minutes later, he has a small bag in his hand and a smile on his face.]
Oooooh nothing. Just talked to a few people and got you something.
[He leans in to kiss the other cheek before handing him the bag - full of about four potatoes and a small bottle of cooking oil.] I'll have to do some extra work the rest of the week, but worth it.
Leo- oh my god. You- [He's surprised by a laugh escaping him and the brief threat of tears before he shakes it off. Why does the thought of making latkes make him so emotional?]
Thank you. [Leo gets at best mild warning as Peter tugs him down for a proper kiss. It's more PDA than they usually do in 'public', but its at least warranted.]
[he makes a pleased happy little trill in his throat as he's pulled in for a kiss. A few others stop to look at the couple, at least two faces falling in disappointment at the display.
But Leo got to hear that laugh and make his husband happy with this. Absolutely worth the extra duties he picked up the rest of the week.]

[Peter draws back, smiling up at his husband. Starry eyed and excited.
He is decidedly unaware of anyone else around them for the moment. His world just made up of Leo for the moment. He releases his hold on Leo, for now just resting a hand against his chest.]
It'll be plenty, I know it will be. I'll make some- for you, for our family.
[He rests his hand over Peter's. He's so glad this worked. Leo doesn't know what other kinds of sacrifices to what gods he could have made if it didn't.]
And some for anyone you're hosting service for too.
[Peter brightens further. His uncertainty about getting everything together meant getting people together had dropped out of his head entirely.]

Before someone coughs politely behind them. That much is enough for Peter to break away, turning a nice shade of red. He is reluctant to step away, still just holding onto Leo a little loosely.] Ah- uh, sorry.
[Leonardo looks at the person with a grin, still keeping hands on Peter and tugging him in closer.]
Yeah, sorry I was exchanging a hard-won gift with my husband and making plans for a community gathering for others in the base who may want to celebrate a specific way.
[Once they're out of the mess, further down the hall Peter tugs him into another kiss. A hand tangling in Leo's mask tails firmly to keep him in place.
It is one of those kisses that is going to likely give Leo a crick in his neck and strain Peter's own neck, but its a price to pay for kisses.]
[He practically purrs into that kiss, almost picking Peter up after his neck starts aching. Gives him a little twirl before setting his husband down again.]
